Assalamualaikum :)
Hello. So here I am, after a longgggggggg leave from writing. I guess I figured out that I kinda miss blogging. Which explains why I'm writing again. Yeah!
So lets skip everything that happened while I was away shall we? Boringlah bukan orang nak tau pun kan. I just wanna share with you my experience in the dental clinic today.
Today I was in oral surgery posting. Dr K was on leave so Dr V had to be in charge. Allah bless my group as we always have quite a lot of patients, Alhamdulillah.
My patient today is a non-muslim uncle (why Im telling this? I'll explain later). I'm supposed to extract his right upper first molar because the pulp is already exposed and my conservative lecturer said nothing can be done, so extraction is the best way.
We were running short of instruments and the uncle who is always punctual came quite late today. I was worried because the aspirating syringe were all booked by my groupmates who were also waiting for their patients. But kind-hearted as they are, they said I could take it if my patient came earlier than theirs.
So I went to the cupboards where all the instruments are kept and started searching for the right forcep. And then came a senior.
"Hey amira. aminah. right?"
"Yes? Call me min je la.."
"Can u tell me how to do PSA aa? I heard that you are very good in giving PSA. So confident!"
"Heh? PSA is easy right. Just palpate the zygomatic buttress and then give injection behind that. Easier than IAN I think"
"Huyyooo, no wonder they said you are very good. Im always scared to do PSA. Im gonna have to do it later"
"Youuuuu....perli aaaa"
HAHAHAH. Oh in case u dont know, PSA is the name of a nerve, which we are supposed to block so that the patient will be anesthetised. I guess a senior might have told her that I really wasnt scared when I gave my PSA last time when I assissted the senior because they are not allowed to do simple extraction anymore (it's our requirement, they will only be doing surgical cases). Thanks to Dr K because he always put his trust on his students to try to give the injection themselves.
Im scared to do IAN injection though because I only did it once this year. And I begged Dr V to supervise me doing that. Hehe. *blinkblinkcuteeyes*
Oh, and later my patient came. There was a aged-lady with medical problems so Dr V had to be there and do the procedure just to avoid any complication. So, I had to do the extraction alone. But Alhamdulillah I wasnt scared because I had mastered the art of maxillary injection! HAHAHAHA. Nasib apela asyik dapat gigi atas and then root stumps. Ini baru first time dapat gigi seketoi setelah 3-4 minggu asyik korek root stumps.
First, I had to take the uncle's blood pressure, so I had to put the stethoscope inside my tudung la kan. And then he asked.
"Tak pakai tudung tak boleh eh?"
"Tak boleh. Nanti Tuhan marah"
"Tapi susah la you buat kerja. Kena masuk dalam ini semua."
"Takpe uncle, susah kat dunia saja."
Ya Allah. Dugaan betul. After I did my extraction, alone (hoorey!), I asked the uncle to pay downstairs.
"Ala, takpayah bayarla. Kita bayar tax dekat government kenapa kena bayar?"
"Ini private uncle, bukan government."
"Ya la, tp kita bayar tax."
"Saya tak bayar tax pun?" (cubaan buat lawak)
"Kawan I haritu buat takpayah bayar pun."
"Maybe student tu lupa nak bagitau kot. Kena bayar. Dengan I, I make sure semua orang bayar. Takde excuse"
Fikir balik, I was quite .... strict. Maybe I was carried away with his statements before that. Im not angry. Im just quite annoyed. But it's something I have to learn to accept at that moment and not letting it stays in my mind after I stepped out of the clinic. The uncle is very nice and very cooperative, just that I have to learn to counter his words. Hee..
Apetah lagi bila patient paksa-paksa siapkan cepat. To not add to the stress, I will tell them, I'll try my best but I wont promise anything. I wanna do my work out of the feeling that Im responsible to do it, not because a patient force me to do it.
Someone told me, kalau kita tahu tujuan kita hidup, tujuan pekerjaan kita, kita tak akan stress. Sebab kita tak hidup untuk orang. Kita hidup untuk Allah. Alhamdulillah, walaupun aku tak rushing-rushing nak siapkan denture, Allah permudahkan semua urusan dan siap je on time, patients pun tak marah-marah :)
For any dental/medical students out there, lepas solat, doala, mintak dengan Allah, bagi kita patients yang cooperative. Doakan untuk kebaikan patients jugak, sebab doa tu last sekali akan di-aminkan oleh malaikat untuk kita jugak :)
Assalamualaikum.
